Denis Masinde Onyango is Uganda Cranes and Mamelodi Sundowns history-making shot stopper and days back he was ranked among the top 10 goalkeepers in the world 2016. He is also shortlisted among the three nominees for the African player of the year.
Within a period of not more than a year, Onyango has registered a number of achievements for Uganda as a country as well as for his football club in South Africa. To begin with he helped Uganda qualify for African cup of Nations after 38 years of showing nothing and just recently he was the main man who enabled his Club Mamelodi Sundown in South Africa to lift the CAF champion’s league.
Here are the six things you didn’t know about the football star;
1.Denis Onyango was born on 15 May 1987 in Kampala, the capital city of Uganda.
2.He will be participating in his first Edition of the Africa Cup of Nations the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations which will be hosted by Gabon. from 14 January 2017 to 5 February 2017. Onyango helped Uganda Cranes so much to qualify for tournament after defeating Comoros at Nambole Stadium in September 2016.
3. Before joining Mamelodi Sundown, the shot stopper played for Sharing Nsambya, Villa SC, Saint George, Supersport United, Mpumalanga Black Aces.
4.The player is represented by Ivica Stankovic in South Africa as his agent
5.Onyango made his first international debut for the Uganda Cranes national team in 2005 when Uganda Cranes was playing in World Cup Qualifiers on Saturday 18. June 2005 Uganda Cranes versing Cape Verde. From then he has been a regular player in Uganda Cranes matches.
6. Currently, Onyango holds a permanent residence permit for South Africa and he is registered as local player in South Africa.
