Former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate, Dr. Kizza Besigye faulted the credibility of the election process organized by President Yoweri Museveni.
While addressing the Elgon FDC delegates in Mbale yesterday, Besigye said that the elections are not necessarily organized to hand over power even if people like Museveni are defeated.
He said that no dictator loves holding elections instead they are forced to hold them and through these elections, it’s the only time opposition parties try to engage and talk to people.
“Elections organized by a dictator are not necessarily organized to hand over office even if they are defeated like Museveni was defeated. No dictator loves holding elections, they are forced to hold them. It is the only time we can try to use our limited freedom to engage and talk to people,” Besigye said.
“There is a claim that elections are over but we hold elections all the time. There are lower local council elections about to take place. The dictator is moving around the country campaigning but we are restricted from organising meetings for our party,” he added.
Besigye further said that as FDC, they won the presidential elections and that they must regain their mandate the people of Uganda gave them asserting that they shall struggle to reclaim their win.
He stressed out that if President Museveni wants a dialogue to negotiate his departure, they are willing to have negotiations with him.
“We won the election and we must regain our mandate the people of Uganda gave us. We shall struggle to reclaim our win and even if Mr. Museveni wants dialogue to negotiate his departure-there has been signs- we are willing to negotiate his retirement,” He asserted.
