Bagiire said the government is much ready to revive the long collapsed airlines and it has put aside shs245 billion as initial capital.
While in Luuka district for the 54th independence day celebrations on Sunday on 9th October ,2016,President Yoweri Museveni said, the plans to reinstate the Uganda airways are underway and the airways shall start operating soon.
If the plans succeed, Uganda will first attain 2 planes at the beginning of 2017 and then another 2 planes in October the same year.
Uganda airlines were established in May 1976, it started operating in 1977.
Unfortunately, the airlines collapsed way back in 2001 after poor management and unavoidable debts which surrounded the airlines by the time. Uganda as a nation last owned a national plane 15 years back.
According to Bernard Mutyaba, the former head of of uganda airlines (1993-1999), if the government is to bring back the airlines, it should resent from the past mistakes which led to its collapse.
“Uganda should learn from Ethiopia, it has trust in its management that’s why Ethiopia has the best airlines in Africa.” Mutyaba said.
