The deputy Executive Director of Uganda Media Centre, Rtd. Col Shaban Bantariza has pinned the recent Kasese unrest causes of deaths on the Omusinga wa Rwenzururu, Charles Wesley Mumbere and his defiant royal guards saying that during the raid, government security operatives first asked Mumbere to disarm his guards but they resisted which forced the army to open fire at them.
While appearing on Nbs television’s topical discussion today morning, Bantariza asserted that the Security personnels gave the royal guards an ultimatum to disarm adamantly denied to abide by the instructions.
“Security attacked the palace to disarm these people forcefully and secure the Omusinga without any harm,” H e said adding that the government has no problem with any cultural institution. They are perfectly working with their people and government.
He however declined allegations leveled against the police by a renowned city lawyer Asuman Basalirwa who said during the same program that the 48hr rule is a constitutional command, but it’s the most abused.
He said the 48hr rule is being abused because of two things; impunity of the police and blanket accusations.
“Police is not breaking the 48hr rule, they are having challenges implementing it due to the complexity of the situation,” Bantariza said.
He further said the screening of the suspects arrested from the Omusinga’s palace is ongoing.
