Leaders from the Acholi region have described the death of Maj Gen Julius Oketta as a great loss to humanity.

Oketta died yesterday morning at Kadic hospital, Kampala due to heart failure. Before his death, the senior officer served as the Deputy Coordinator of Operation Wealth Creation.
Maj Gen Julius Oketta’s profile
Major General Julius Oketta was a senior commander in the Uganda People’s Defence Forces was Born on October 3, 1956, in Amuru District, Northern Uganda.
General Oketta studied his first degree at Ndejje University and later did a Diploma in Economics & Commerce at Cambridge International College.
From 1989 to 1993 Maj. Gen. Oketta served as the Division Commander of the 6th Division of the National Resistance Army. Between 2001 and 2003: He served as the Chief of Logistics and Engineering in the UPDF.
In 2003, he was appointed the Uganda Liaison Officer, in the Republic of Sudan.
In 2004, he served as Head of the Procurement and Disposal Unit at the Uganda Ministry of Defense.
In 2013; He was nominated by President Museveni and seconded by UN Secretary General to join the advisory group of the United Nations (UN) Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF).
In September 2014, he was nominated to join the African Union-led humanitarian mission to address the threat of the Ebola virus. He was awarded a medal of honor by the Liberian President of Liberia for his efforts in the fight against Ebola.
From 2007 to 2016 Maj. Gen. Oketta served as the Director of the National Emergency Coordination and Operations Centre, in the Office of the Prime Minister.
Early this year, he quit Parliament as the army representative to take over and concentrate on the Operation Wealth Creation.
