Solomon Semakula, a resident of Nakaseke, who was arrested for calling himself Jesus Christ, has professed that his mission was a hoax.
Semakula, also known as Elosam Emmanuel Prince made the declaration moments after he was granted bail by Kiwoko Grade One Magistrate Magumu Nasuru. He had been on remand at Wakyato Government Prison since July 11.
He was charged with belonging to an unlawful society contrary to section 56 (1) and 2 (a) of the Penal code act and managing an unlawful society contrary to section 57 of the penal code act.
Court heard that between May and June this year, while at Togo village in Kapeeka Sub County in Nakaseke district, Semakula managed an unlawful society by leading a group of eight people whom he has persuaded to believe that he is Jesus Christ, a son of God.
Semakula together with his follower’s held themselves as members of a cult whose teachings prohibit people from accessing medical facilities and cooked food. He was granted bail after reproving the title Jesus Christ. He presented three sureties including Steven Kiribata, a resident of Bukeeka in Kapeeka Sub County, Sarah Kiyega Namande of Kavule in Luwero District and Jennifer Nalubwama of Wampamba Zone in Wobulenzi Town Council.
Semakula said he was abandoning the name Jesus Christ and the mission of preparing people for the end times.
Semakula apologized to his followers and the whole nation for hoodwinking them into believing that he was a son of God and a prince of peace sent to save the world.
The other members of the group are Ndikumwani Jonani (38), Mukamusoni Milly (47), Kalyesubula Sayun (35), Margaret Namagembe (30), Nakimera Ruth (28), Mwebe Fredrick (38), Bamundaga Godfrey (38) and Clement Kayimbye (30), all residents of Togo in Kapeeka Sub County.
Semakula’s followers have also admitted that indeed he is not Jesus Christ as they believed. Godfrey Bamundaga says that they were hoodwinked when Semakula told them that he has got a revelation from God. He adds that they now believe that there is one Jesus who died, resurrected and ascended to heaven.
