Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology solutions provider has on Wednesday contributed shs250 million towards this year’s MTN Kampala Marathon.
The cheque handover ceremony took place at Huawei Uganda offices in Kampala.
The 2018 MTN marathon will take place on Sunday 25 November at Kololo Independence grounds, with an aim of raising funds towards Maternal Health Care in Uganda through ensuring safe childbirth for expectant mothers regardless of their means or where they come from.
Mr. Liu Jiawei, Managing Director for Huawei Uganda said the company considers social good in prioritizing business development through looking at enormous needs in countries like Uganda and they are sure that with the shs250 million, the country will be a better place in terms of maternal health.
“Huawei considers social good in prioritizing business development by looking at enormous needs in countries such as Uganda and considering outreaches that have the greatest impact such as the MTN Marathon. That is why today we have handed over our contribution of shs250 million to maternal health through the marathon. We are sure that with this contribution, Uganda can only be a better place,” said Mr. Liu Jiawei.
At the same function, MTN Chief Marketing Officer, Mr. Olivier Prentout who represented the CEO, Mr. Wim Vanhelleputte, hailed Huawei for the partnership.
“MTN Uganda acknowledges and commends Huawei for its willingness to respond to the call to ensure that the Marathon continues to be a resounding success year in year out. It has been 14 years of organizing the MTN Kampala Marathon and we therefore find it extremely important to collectively mobilize and continue to channel support to communities in need,” said Mr. Prentout.
Adding, “Our longstanding work relationship with Huawei has birthed innovative digital solutions which have transformed the digital landscape for Uganda; and has certainly contributed tour vision of delivering a bold new digital world to our customers. With Huawei’s involvement in the MTN Marathon, we have positively impacted communities from the proceeds raised from the marathon. We believe in strength in numbers, and so today it gives us immense pleasure to have Huawei once again join to ensure that this year’s marathon is a success,”
More than 150 Huawei staff have confirmed participation in the marathon.
