Famous social media anti- government critic, the ‘anonymous’ Tom Voltaire Okwalinga ( TVO)has praised the Facebook management, human rights activists for having been able to protect him from the incumbent NRM government which wanted to compromise his safety.
Writing on his facebook page, TVO asserted that The government wanted to compromise his identity using controversial city Lawyer, Fred Mwema.
“I WOULD LIKE TO THANK THE MANAGEMENT OF FACEBOOK, THE US STATE DEPARTMENT, AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL, UGANDAN HUMAN RIGHTS LAWYERS LED BY NICHOLAS OPIYO, AND A NUMBER OF MEDIA FREEDOM ORGANISATIONS ACROSS THE WORLD, WHO PUT UP A TOUGH FIGHT, TO RESIST ATTEMPTS BY THE UGANDAN REGIME, USING, FRED MUWEMA TO COMPROMISE MY SAFETY. 2017, INDEED WILL NOT BE BUSINESS AS USUAL IN THE FIGHT AGAINST CORRUPTION AND BAD GOVERNANCE.
ALUTA CONTINUA!!!,” TVO noted.
Mwema sued Facebook management in courts of law demanding it to reveal TVO’s identity claiming that he had had defamed him( Mwema) through his popular facebook posts.
Mwenda alleges that TVO had accused him falsely.
In 2016, after presidential elections, former Prime Minister, Amama Mbabazi through his lawyers who included Mwema filed an election petition claiming that his votes were rigged.
During the process, unknown thugs broke into the Mbabazi’s lawyers office and took away with part of crucial evidence.
In one of his facebook post, TVO came out to claim that Mwenda was part and parcel of the conspiracy to misplace the evidence since he was bribed with shs 900 million by the government.
For years, TVO has been a pain in the neck towards the government, he has exposed several officials to the public through unveiling high profiled evidence.
So the government has done everything to compromise the safety of the ‘snitch’ but to no avail.
